Patient-Doctor Depth of Relationship Scale validation and its influence on the outcomes: what is the importance of emotional intelligence when approaching the patient?

Background: The patient-doctor relationship (DPR), promotes shared decision-making and patient-centered care, implying emotional intelligence and good communication, leading to positive health outcomes. Objective: To culturally adapt the Patient-Doctor Depth of Relationship Scale (PDDR) and convergently validate with the Patient Enablement Instrument (PEI) to ascertain the correlation between PDR and enablement. Methods: Cross-cultural adaptation process of the PDDR questionnaire to European Portuguese, through translation, linguistic verification, and reverse translation and also its understandability. Convergent validation with the Patient Enablement Instrument (PEI), after their doctor’s appointment, in a general practice/family medicine health unit. Context information, such as gender, age, living status, educational level, monthly income, Socioeconomic Deprivation Index (SEDI), and clinical appointment with the usual doctor, was also collected. Results: PDDR showed good understandability and acceptance and strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s α=0.785; intraclass correlation coefficient=0.785). A total of 81 patients participated in the study, most of them female (70.4%). There was a significant difference in the PDDR total score depending on whether the appointment had been with the usual doctor (p<0.001). Both a weak positive non-significant correlation between PDDR and SEDI total scores (ρ=0.300; p=0.790) and a moderate significant negative correlation between PDDR total score and PEI (ρ=-0.396; p<0.001) were found. Conclusion: The cross-cultural adaptation of the PDDR questionnaire to European Portuguese was carried out. PDDR proved to be a reasonable measure of the patient-doctor relationship, allowing greater patient enablement when a deeper patient-doctor relationship exists.

Contemporary psychological perspectives on personal readiness for professional activity

The article highlights the results of the theoretical analysis of the concept of "psychological readiness" as a state of readiness to act or react to a trigger. "Psychological readiness for professional activity", in turn, is seen as a positive attitude towards the value and meaning of the professional role and acceptance of one's ability to perform it. The main structural components of the psychological readiness of an individual for professional activity, which includes operational, emotional, socio-psychological, psychophysiological components, have been considered. It has been indicated that psychological readiness for the profession is an important component of the student's self-improvement, promotes self-realisation in the professional sphere. The peculiarity of psychological readiness for professional activity of military personnel has been highlighted. The importance of emotional intelligence and empathy as a component of a person's psychological readiness for professional activity has been noted. A high correlation between the development of emotional intelligence and the components of psychological readiness has been determined, namely: the influence of intrapersonal emotional intelligence on the cognitive-target component of psychological readiness; the influence of interpersonal emotional intelligence on the behavioural component of psychological readiness as a factor in ensuring the successful professional activity of specialists of different profiles. The mandatory inclusion of methods of studying emotional intelligence and empathy in the study of psychological readiness of a person for professional activity has been suggested.

Research on emotional intelligence among Indian teachers: A Systematic Review and meta-analysis of its correlation with health parameters and impact of gender

Background Emotional intelligence is the self-perception related to identification and regulation of emotions. Several studies have been done among Indian teachers evaluating emotional intelligence in relation to demographic, professional and various psychological parameters, but the variety of scales, teacher types, and conflicting results makes it difficult to draw any meaningful conclusions from this heterogeneous data. The present work aims to synthesize the available data by both qualitative and quantitative analysis and is the first such attempt to include only Indian studies in this field. The main objectives were to determine the correlation of emotional intelligence with teachers’ health parameters and to study the gender difference in emotional intelligence. Methods After a thorough literature search in Google, Google scholar, Scopus, Web of science and Pubmed, fifty-five Indian studies were selected which empirically examined teachers’ emotional intelligence, either alone or in association with another parameter evaluating teachers’ psychological health and performance. After qualitative assessment of major findings, quantitative analysis was performed. Three separate meta-analysis were carried out. The first one with fifteen effect sizes among 3291 participants evaluated correlation with personal health parameters. The second with nineteen effect sizes in 4165 participants evaluated correlation with professional health parameters. The third with twenty-six studies involving 6005 participants assessed effect of gender. Results The results show that almost all studies have used a trait measure, teachers’ emotional intelligence is positively correlated with both personal and professional health parameters and gender has no effect on emotional intelligence. Conclusion Major limitations are a very high degree of heterogeneity of the data, incomplete description of the scales, inadequate randomization and small sample sizes in many studies. The results indicate the importance of emotional intelligence in both personal and professional life of teachers and no effect of gender preparing a solid base for future research.

Dart Emotional Spiritual Quotient (DESQ) Impact on Employee Performance and Role of Training Module (TM-DESQ): A Public Enterprise Perspective for Islamic Republic of Pakistan

This study is focused on the effect of emotional intelligence (EQ), spiritual intelligence (SQ), and dart accountability quotients training modules (TM-DESQ) on employees’ performance working in the public enterprise (and private sector) of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Research manifests that EQ and SQ positively and significantly affect employee performance, progress, and development. The importance of emotional intelligence has been widely emphasized in human resource studies, similarly, literature articulates that accountability is an essential factor for the good governance of the public sector enterprise performance. Worldwide studies have a few contradictory results concerning EQ and SQ, and their impact on performance. Training programs on SQ learning lack longitudinal studies. SQ training’s impact on individual learning, performance, and HRD training was a research gap bridged through this study. A sample of 42 public and private sector employees took their EQ, SQ, and Dart Accountability scores as pen-and-paper self-report measures whereas the performance of employees was reported by their supervisors or managers as the second source of data. Basic training on EQ, SQ, and Dart Accountability (DESQ) was designed and TM-DESQ Intervention was instructed to respondents through webinars amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. The results demonstrated a positive and significant impact of emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, and dart accountability on employee performance. However, the insignificant effect of a few facets of some variables has opened other dimensions of research.

The Impact of Emotional Intelligence on the Performance of Employees in the Lebanese Banking Sector During Crisis

Objective: Although the importance of emotional intelligence is noted by several authors, its significance should be emphasized in jobs where crises occur, such as Lebanese banking positions. The significance of the study lies in its main aim, which is to address this gap and examine how the emotional intelligence of Lebanese bank employees affects their performance during a crisis. The aim of the study is to examine the positive impact of emotional intelligence on the performance of employees working in the Lebanese banking sector during a crisis.   Methodology:  To verify this aim, a questionnaire was distributed to employees working in the Lebanese banking sector during the crisis that has been affecting Lebanon. A sample of 201 respondents was obtained, and the data obtained were analyzed using SPSS.   Findings: It was found that employees working in the banking industry during the crisis performed better when they possessed high emotional intelligence.   Implications/Value: It is highly recommended that bank managers become aware of the importance of their own emotional intelligence and that of their employees, as it will directly and positively affect their performance during a crisis, thus influencing the overall performance of the sector.

The Role and Importance of Emotional Intelligence in Knowledge Management

Knowledge management is the main component of a knowledge-based society. Learning organizations are aware of the potential that lies in human resources, and are prone to developing new concepts of leadership, where hierarchy and pyramid structured decision making no longer play the main role. The new concept is built on a partnership between professionals from different sectors of the organization. Partnership alliances depend on the quality of human relations. We suggest that emotional intelligence enhanced with new concepts of leadership increases generating and transfer of knowledge. The study has a qualitative approach taken through interviews that were conducted with top management to investigate the role of emotional intelligence and its impact on management in correlation with sharing knowledge. The findings confirmed our hypothesis since research has shown how the leadership strategy reflects on the input of employees, and the way resulting in stimulation or discouragement of the transfer of knowledge in the organization

Emotional intelligence and consumer decision-making styles: the mediating role of brand trust and brand loyalty

This paper brings to light emotional intelligence’s impact on consumer decision-making styles during purchases. We show how brand trust (BT) and brand loyalty (BL) act as mediators between emotional intelligence (EI) and decision-making styles. We further indicate how consumers rely on emotional intelligence (EI) when purchasing products or services based on specific decision-making styles and patterns. We examine this issue by selecting customers who shop at the Accra and West Hills Malls. Seven hundred and fifty (750) respondents from the two selected malls comprised the study’s sample size. The respondents were chosen using the simple random and accidental/convenient sampling approach. The study hypotheses were examined using cross-sectional survey data. We use confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling to analyze the data. We exhibit reliable information that emotional intelligence mediates the relationship between BT and BL, while the relationship between brand trust and brand loyalty is more strongly mediated at higher levels of EI. The result indicates a partial mediation between emotional intelligence and decision-making style through brand loyalty. This paper aims to increase knowledge on the importance of emotional intelligence from the perspective of customers through decision-making styles.

Emotional Intelligence: A Missing Category in Discipleship Training and Spiritual Formation?

This paper argues that the importance of emotional intelligence (EI) has been underrecognized in church discipleship and spiritual formation programs, and that the development of emotional intelligence needs to be more fully incorporated in such programs in both church and seminary settings. The timeliness and need for additional study of EI is shown; current literature on discipleship and spiritual formation is surveyed; reasons for the relative neglect of EI in theological training and spiritual formation are identified; a biblical rationale for recovering EI as an essential element for discipleship and spiritual formation is presented, with Phil 4:4-9 examined as a biblical case study.

Importance of emotional intelligence in the teaching-learning process in mathematical and accounting skills

Esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la importancia de la inteligencia emocional en el proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje de las matemáticas y la contabilidad, esto con el propósito de identificar novedades y presentar estrategias que contribuyan a desarrollar las competencias planteadas por el Ministerio Educación Nacional. El método utilizado es descriptivo-cualitativo porque permite interacción con la realidad problemática en un contexto educativo, empresarial, personal y familiar; adicionalmente, se enriquece con el aporte de diferentes autores que enfatizan que las instituciones deberían incluir la inteligencia emocional en los planes de estudio con la finalidad de obtener mejores resultados en las habilidades de los estudiantes y optimizar su rendimiento académico mediante herramientas y ambientes propicios que generen la aplicación del conocimiento y la competencia para solución de problemas.

This research is based on the importance of emotional intelligence in students. Not only intellectual intelligence but emotional intelligence is equally important. In this study aims to provide an overview of the affective learning strategy of the consideration model in developing students' emotional intelligence and its impact. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, the data used are interviews, observations, and documentation. The subjects studied were teachers as homeroom teachers for class IV and students in class IV at SDN Citangkil Baru, Cilegon City. The result of this research is that the teacher's efforts in fostering emotional intelligence are the affective learning of the consideration model, namely the learning steps of the consideration model. The impact of the consideration model of affective learning is to improve students' social skills, inculcate an attitude of tolerance, increase positive mindsets such as being responsible, mutual cooperation, caring for one another.

Emotional intelligence and knowledge sharing as key factors in business management – evidence from Slovak SMEs

ABSTRACT. Over the last decades, researchers have been increasingly studying the field of emotional intelligence and knowledge management. However, the interaction between these two important factors has not received sufficient attention thus far, therefore this paper aims to assess it. The goal of this article is to assess the impact of emotional intelligence on the willingness of knowledge transfer and examine additional factors (such as gender and generation group). The research sample (N=508) consisted of employees of Slovak SMEs. The study was conducted in June-August of 2022. A two-way variance analysis and a binomial logistic regression were applied. In the case of Hypotheses 1 and 2, Emotional Quotient (EQ) figured as an independent variable, while gender and generation group were independent categorical variables. In the case of Hypotheses 3, 4 and 5, a model was set up using logistic regression, where the EQ, gender and generation group were all independent variables. The results show that gender has a real impact on the level of EQ. The willingness of knowledge transfer is influenced by both the level of EQ and gender. The importance of emotional intelligence in connection to knowledge transfer was examined during the crisis caused by COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, thus expanding the knowledge related to human resources. Previous research on the topic is quite limited and the present study is unique in considering the issue in the context of SMEs and the CEE countries.

The Importance of Emotional Intelligence in University Athletes: Analysis of Its Relationship with Anxiety

In the field of sport psychology, research on emotional intelligence and its relationship with other psychological variables to determine how it affects the athlete's performance is becoming more frequent and prevalent. Among these psychological variables, research in this field has focused on the evaluation of the influence of aspects such as motivation, leadership, self-concept, and anxiety. The main objective of this research is to analyze the levels of each of the dimensions of emotional intelligence (attention, clarity, and emotional regulation) and their relationship with each of the SCAT items to measure pre-competitive anxiety. To do so, we analyzed the influence that one psychological construct has on the other, in order to establish the type of relationships that are established between them. The design of this research corresponds to be transversal, observational, quantitative, and descriptive. The sample consisted of 165 students belonging to university degrees (bachelor's and master's) related to physical activity and sport sciences. The main finding of this study allows us to affirm the relationship between emotional intelligence and anxiety. This confirms the hypothesis that anxiety is an indispensable component of any competitive situation, and that neither the total absence of anxiety nor high levels of it leads to better sports performance. Therefore, sport psychology should focus on the emotional preparation of athletes so that they can manage and control their anxiety at intermediate levels, which in addition to being typical of a competitive situation, is also synonymous with good sporting performance.

Concern About Returning to Face-to-Face Classes After the Pandemic: Importance of Emotional Intelligence and Stress Coping Strategies in Health Science Students.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new normality, a scenario where different circumstances trigger emotions such as concern about returning to face-to-face classes, to which higher education students adapt. The objective was to identify how emotional intelligence and coping with stress explain students' concern about returning to face-to-face classes post COVID-19. This was an explanatory and cross-sectional study. The sample by intention was 588 students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale (REIS), the Stress Coping Questionnaire (CAE), and the ACAD-COVID-19 scale were used. For data collection, the instruments were digitized. Bivariate analysis with Chi-square and multivariate logistic regression was performed. The mean age of the participants was 19.72 years; most were single and without children (96.9% and 96.8%, respectively). 74.3% did not work, 80.8% were from the first years of study, and 52.7% belonged to nursing school. About 94.2% of participants indicated having adequate emotional intelligence, 91.3% expressed coping with adequate stress, and 67.2% indicated serious concern about returning to face-to-face classes. An association was found between gender (p=0.042), age (p=0.002), year of study (p=0.027), emotional intelligence (p=0.001), and coping with stress (p=0.001) with concern for return to face-to-face classes. Emotional intelligence identified as adequate (OR: 2.580; IC95%: 1.117-5.960) and coping with stress identified as adequate (OR: 2.008; IC95%: 1.018-3.960) are more likely to express serious concern about the return to face-to-face classes after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the results, the need to safeguard the psychological aspects of students is highlighted, especially emotional intelligence, as well as to improve coping with stress so that they can better manage concerns about returning to face-to-face classes. The educational authorities should implement strategies to improve these aspects in order to ensure the adequate return to face-to-face classes in new scenarios.

Importance of Emotional Intelligence in Order to Reduce Suicidal Ideation in Adolescents’ Bullying Victims: A Mediation and Moderation Model

ABSTRACT The objective of this study has been to analyze the impact of emotional intelligence (EI), interpersonal difficulties and life satisfaction in the relationship between victimization and suicidal ideation. For this purpose, a total of 898 adolescents responded to the Peer School Victimization Scale, Wong-Law Emotional Intelligence Scale and Suicide Risk Inventory for Adolescents. Results from the mediation analysis revealed how EI, interpersonal difficulties and life satisfaction mediated the relationship between bullying victimization and suicidal ideation. Moreover, the moderation analyses revealed that the association between EI and suicidal ideation was moderated by gender and by age. Finally, from the moderated moderation analyses, it was observed how in cases of relational victimization, EI helped to reduce suicidal ideation to a greater degree in students that had never retaken a course than in students with this feature.
